Travel Program

THE STORM IS COMING....
The Council Rock Storm is our travel basketball program. Our travel teams offer a more competitive alternative to our intramural winter season offering.
We have boys and girls travel teams at each grade level from 3rd grade through 8th grade. Boys typically have two teams at each age group. Girls have either one or two teams at each group depending on demand each year.
In order to make one of our travel teams, each player has to try out each year. Tryouts typically are held the last two weeks of September at Holland Middle School, and we have two tryout slots for each grade level each year. Players are required to attend one of the tryouts in order to be considered for a team, and are encouraged to attend both tryouts in order to give the coaches the best chance to evaluate them.
Our travel teams play in ICBA, which is an independent organization that coordinates both boys' and girls' leagues for each grade level that are split up into divisions based on skill in order to try and achieve competitive balance. More information on ICBA can be found by going to their website:
The travel season generally begins informal "open gym" practices in October and then formal practices begin in early November. Each team practices twice each week and then plays one or two games per week through the season. We typically host home games at Holland Middle School. Away games are hosted by our ICBA opponents throughout the area.
Each team begins their season playing in ICBA's "King of the Court" tournament which begins right after Thanksgiving and ends in the second week of December. After King of the Court ends, the ICBA regular season begins and runs through the end of February. ICBA playoffs usually take place from the end of February through the first half of March. There is also a possibility for successful teams to qualify for the PA State Championships, which take place in State College in mid-March.
In addition to the ICBA season, some coaches elect to play in a secondary league, and/or schedule additional tournaments in order to get our players additional game reps. Those additional leagues or tournaments are done at the coach's discretion and will be discussed with the parents in advance of the season. The fees for those types of games are in addition to the league registration fee and are collected by the coach.
Unlike our intramural program, which guarantees players equal playing time, playing time for travel is earned by each player and up to the discretion of the coach.
Given the competitive nature of our travel program, and the amount of players who tryout and are not offered a spot, we do ask that each player selected for one of our travel teams makes basketball their top sport priority for the winter season. We understand that our players also play other sports - in fact, we encourage our players to play other sports and become well-rounded athletes. But during the travel basketball season, our coaches expect that our players will commit to attending all games and practices.
