Travel Tryouts 2025/26
Our travel program is a more competitive alternative to the Council Rock Basketball in-house winter season. We have boys and girls teams by grade level running from third grade through eighth grade. Each travel team will participate in the King of the Court preseason tournament that begins right after Thanksgiving and then will go on to play in a league that is coordinated by ICBA. Each player must try out and be selected to one of our travel teams in order to participate. There is a $20 non-refundable fee to try out for one of our teams. There are two tryouts for each grade level and for each of the boys' and girls' teams at that level. Tryouts will be held between 9/15-9/30 and each player is required to be present for at least one of the age groups' scheduled times. Players are encouraged to attend both tryouts in order to give the coaches as much time to see them on the court as possible to help with the evaluation decisions. Travel is a significant time commitment, and each grade level is very competitive to make the teams - so players who are selected are expected to make travel basketball their priority during the winter season.
Ages
Council Rock Basketball has travel teams for boys and girls currently in grades three through eight. Players need to try out and be selected for a team in order to play.
When
Practices for the travel season runs from early November to mid-March with ICBA games starting in mid-December and playoffs in March.
Where
Home games for the ICBA league will be played at Holland Middle School and away games at the opposing team's gym. Games for additional leagues and tournaments will be communicated by the coach. The location of away games depends on our opponents' gym availability. The travel time for away games varies by age group, and can run anywhere from ten minutes to an hour.
Practices
Each team will practice twice a week. Most practices will be held in a CR district gym, but some teams will need to travel up to 20 minutes outside of the district.
Games
Each team will play between 15-25 games which include the King of the Court preseason tournament, ICBA season and playoffs. Some teams may elect to play in a secondary league and/or enter additional tournaments throughout the season in order to get players additional game reps. That is up to each team's individual coach and the plans for that will be communicated to you prior to the start of the season.
Uniforms
Uniforms are purchased separately from registration. There will be a try-on date in early October and a link will be shared to the store where the uniform pieces can be purchased. We expect to have new uniforms this year for all players.
Costs
In order to try out for a team, there is a non-refundable $20 tryout fee. After that, upon selection to a team, registration will be $325 for the season. This covers the cost of gym time, referees, King of the Court entry, and entry fees for the ICBA season. In addition to those fees, players will be required to purchase uniforms. If your child's coach decides to play in any other leagues or tournaments, that will be an additional cost that will be discussed with the parents and collected by the coach on an event-by-event basis. A typical secondary league usually costs around $100 per player. Tournaments typically cost less to enter, and end up being approximately $20-$40 per player, depending on the tournament.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need to live in Council Rock School District in order to play?
Yes. For all of our programs, you must be a resident of the Council Rock School District in order to participate.
Will some players be cut after the tryouts?
Unfortunately, yes. All of our teams are very competitive, with more players trying out than we can reasonably keep on a team. So not everyone that tries out will be able to make one of our teams.
Are there coaching opportunities available?
We are looking for coaches for some of our teams. In particular, we are looking for coaches for 3rd grade (girls and boys), 4th grade (boys), and 7th grade (boys). If you are interested in applying for one of our open coaching positions, please contact Jim Greenberg at jgreenbe@hatboro-horsham.org.
If my child played last year, are they guaranteed to make the team this year?
No. Each team starts fresh every year, and all players must try out each year for each team regardless of whether or not they played on a team last year.
If my child does not make a travel team, will they still be able to play in the in-house program?
Yes. If your child tries out for travel but does not make it, they can still play in our in-house program. We hold spots in our in-house program for players that do not make a travel team to ensure they will still have an opportunity to play.
